Tradition and Authority in the Later Middle Ages

Episode 7 of Positively Medieval!, on “Tradition and Authority in the Later Middle Ages,” is now available. At only 23 minutes, this one’s a bit shorter than the other episodes, but, I hope, not any less substantive in content or clear in exposition. In retrospect, I realize I left some very relevant materials out of the presentation (particularly the 9th and 11th century disagreements about the extent of papal authority and papal claims to be in accordance with tradition, and also the fruitful interactions of the 14th century), but as I don’t have time to re-record the thing with those materials I’m just going to leave it as is.
